Engaged Pedagogy

My commitment to education and the practice of a pedagogy actively engaged with a specific territory remains constant. Deeply inspired by Patrick Geddes and the concept of a ‘militant university,’ I have carried out several innovative educational experiences in India:

1962: Co-initiator of the Ahmedabad School of Architecture, which became CEPT (Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology)
1966: The summer institute in the State of Gujarat
1968-1969: The Sabarmati ‘CEPT’ workshops

As well as innovative educational experiences in France:

1972: The Cergy-Pontoise educational outpost
1974: The public workshop for architecture and urbanism in Coupvray and Quincy-Voisins

Raise Awareness, Educate, Question, Create
This responsibility towards the general public took shape in 2002 within the framework of the association ‘La Manufacture des Paysages’ in Octon, Hérault. The activities there were numerous and varied, such as cabin workshops with young audiences, training for elected officials, exhibitions, and discussions around urban projects like the definition of a square in Lodève…

In 2018, this association became ‘La Manufacture des Pays’ with ‘L’Atelier de la Main’ in Lodève: focusing on the design of school and college courtyards.

To facilitate communication, various mediation methods are employed: spoken word, written text, diagrams, manipulation of objects and models, and physical engagement…
